Just home from killing children

Go fuck yourself, you coward.

I have issues with this. You say you respect people’s opinions on the war, and then you rip them for making a negative statement about a soldier? Um, you have heard the word “contradictory” before, haven’t you?

Here’s why it’s not contradictory: the caption is not, in any real sense, an “opinion.” It’s a statement of “fact” that happens to be incorrect (as far as any of us knows). It’s a summary judgment against a person. Guilty until proven innocent. It’s contrary to (I think) the single most important ideal that sets us apart from savages. There’s a real person in that photo, and you have no idea what she’s done, or what’s going on in her head.
Whatever you want to say about the war, the United States military, or the notion of children being killed in a warzone, it is 100% unfair to assume the worst of a person, simply because they’re wearing camouflage BDUs. That’s the type of shit that led to the horrendous treatment of Vietnam veterans when they came home. Abhor the war. I certainly do. But do the world a favor and don’t condemn a person until you know for a fact that the person in question is indeed abhorrent. To caption a photo like that, or to defend a person who does, is to be a heartless, illogical twat, and it completely warrants the response of “Go fuck yourself, you coward.”
