As a society, we may be disgusted by seeing U.S. Marines urinating on dead Taliban fighters, but we remain oddly unfazed by the fact that, presumably, those same Marines just put high-caliber rounds through the fighters’ chests.

We’re all guilty of dehumanizing the enemy - The Washington Post (via nickdouglas)

punkassjim: War, as a construct, is ancient, and it has fucking rules. “Civilized” societies have been waging wars for millennia, and battlefields are the birthplace of such lofty ideals as valor and honor. Not all soldiers have been expected to treat the enemy as respectable (regrettable enough as it is), but the idea of desecrating the remains of the dead has been the dividing line between civilized soldiers and complete fucking savages. We, as a nation, are sending complete fucking savages to wage our wars for us. These people treat their real, human enemies as if they were no more than a particularly challenging level of Duke Nukem Forever.
